Seattle Flying Dragons
Enjoy the ancient tradition of Dragon Boat paddling with the Seattle Flying Dragons boat club on Lake Union. The club is open to anyone from age 12 on who wants to paddle a painted Dragon Boat. The boat carries 20 paddlers, a drummer and a sweep who steers the boat. Each boat has a team of Dragon Boat racers who practice several times a week for competition with other teams.
Dragon Boat paddling is a low-impact full body exercise although it is not extreme. Participants learn to work together as a team with people of all ages and skill levels involved. Paddlers stroke together, switching sides during the sessions. Practice sessions are scheduled throughout the year on Lake Union, even during the winter months. Visitors can attend three free practice sessions before deciding to join the club.
This is one of the most unusual boat cruises on Lake Union for people interested in learning about this popular international sport.
