Bannerman's Island is truly an interesting tale and an amazing experience for anyone living or visiting the Hudson Highlands State Park area of New York. On the island there is the famous Bannerman's Island castle, which appears out of place due to its location and simply being in the United States. While it is abandoned and in ruins now, the shell of the castle is still there and it is exactly why Bannerman Castle Trust still puts on historical tours of the region and the castle grounds itself.
The island is located on what is called Pollepel Island. Public tours are able to go around the island and even check out the dock and different areas around the castle. While the castle itself is off limits due to safety reasons, simply seeing it in its natural environment is a true treat and is something anyone who loves architecture, nature tours or just ruins of former structures is sure to enjoy all of the historical tours put on on Bannerman's Island.
