Tualatin Riverkeepers is a non-profit group dedicated to proper watershed management through education. Some programs operated by the group include summer day camps and the Dirksen Nature Park. Kayak rental of solos and doubles are offered at their Cook Park location, along with canoe rental. This location is perfect for the new enthusiasts because there is little current.
Alternatively, consider renting a kayak for one of the groups special programs like the Birdfest Paddle where kayakers are likely to see migratory birds including black-headed grossbecks, western wood peewees, and may also have an up close encounter with a kingfisher. Participants may also want to rent a kayak for discovery day held each year in June which is designed to educate people about the wildlife and history of the river. While participants can choose from several more paddle trips during the summer, kayak rentals will go quickly for the Autumn paddle when the fall colors along the river are particularly gorgeous. Regardless of rather you choose to rent a kayak at Cook Park or choose to participate in one of their paddle trips, you can be assured your money is helping to keep the river beautiful.
