December—it's brimming with holiday festivities, grandma's cookies and gift-giving galore. And while traditions and celebrations may differ in every household, there's one thing guaranteed to grace almost everyone's holiday loot: A gift card.

With more than $100 billion spent on gift cards each year, it’s safe to say this type of gift is a hot commodity. According to a 2016 study by CardCash, nearly 75 percent of consumers plan to purchase a gift card this holiday season, and more than half would prefer to receive one digitally.

Meanwhile, people are increasingly interested in experiences over material goods. Encourage customers to purchase a git card—or multiple—around the holidays by selling discounted gift cards! Setting up a discounted gift card is easy: simply set the "purchase price" lower than the "value."

Being able to charge customers a lower amount than the actual value of the gift card is a great way to help incentivize people to purchase them.

3. How To Keep Track Of Your Gift Card Sales

To track your gift card sales, visit the ‘Utilization’ tab beneath ‘Gift Cards.' There, you’ll see a list of every gift card you’ve issued, with the amount, code, issue date, expiration date, redemption status and more.

Seeing this data not only allows you to help customers if they’ve got questions about their gift cards, but also provides useful insights to the success of your gift cards, and how they help drive business. 

4. Selling Gift Cards All Year Long

We’ve all been that person: You’ve checked the whole family off the gift list for the holiday season, when suddenly you remember—Crap, I forgot Aunt Susan! Luckily, all you have to do is pull out your phone and—voila!—send over a quick e-gift card.

  • Embed a link to purchase a gift card in your automated follow-up emails. Customers will be inspired to purchase for a friend right after they’ve had a blast doing it themselves.
